My dad’s best friend was getting remarried. He’s an architect – a very good (and very opinionated!) one. His fiancé is a digital design professional (also a very successful one). So needless to say, when I decided I wanted to make them a quilt, I was intimidated. These people do visual design for a living. How was I to live up to that?
I knew I wanted to do something modern for them to match their clean aesthetic. For a long time I’ve been drooling after During Quiet Time’s barn-inspired quilt. This seemed like a good place to start for inspiration – it seemed perfect that it was based on an old building. So I decided to design something in the same vein. It took a few sketches, which helped to design the direction:
