My grandmother looked great in coral – to this day, the color reminds me only of her. I made this for her for Christmas when she was living in a nursing home – to brighten up her room with some of that coral color.
This is a super easy pattern that has a lot of possibilities to play with colors and patterns. For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the pattern – if you know, remind me!
You can play with the proportions, but generally this is how easy it is:
Cut 1, 4, 3 and 5 from the same color, and 2 from a contrasting color. As an example, for a large 8×8 square (8.5×8.5 with seam allowance) your dimensions would be:
Background color:
- Shape 1: 1.5in x 1in (2in x 1.5in with a standard 1/4in seam allowance)
- Shape 3: 1.5in x 4.5in (2in x 5in with a standard 1/4in seam allowance)
- Shape 4: 1.5in x 8in (2in x 8.5in with a standard 1/4in seam allowance)
- Shape 5: 5in x 8in (5.5in x 8.5in with a standard 1/4in seam allowance)
Pop out color:
- Shape 2: 1.5in x 2.5in (2in x 3in with a standard 1/4in seam allowance)
To compile:
- Sew shape 1 & 2 together
- Sew compiled shape to shape 3
- Sew shape 4 to the top of compiled shape
- Sew shape 5 to the bottom of compiled shape
Ta-da! Have fun playing with fabrics!
