The second quilt I ever made was for my mother. It’s a simple Double Irish Chain pattern. She loved the soft texture of hand quilting, so here is the result of me learning to hand quilt. I find that quilts are often like maps – as I go back to see this celtic knotted pattern, I can see the slow learning of skill. The center of the quilt has large, clumsy stitches. By the edge squares each stitch is closer to correct.
